As we embrace November, our practice turns toward the energetic bridge between the heart (anahata) and throat (vishuddha) chakras. This is a month of opening, softening, and courage — an invitation to express ourselves with clarity while remaining rooted in compassion.
In yoga, the heart is often described as the seat of inner wisdom. Krishnamacharya taught that the breath is the messenger connecting mind, body, and spirit, and nowhere is this more evident than in heart-opening work. When the breath moves freely through the chest, the mind steadies, allowing space for deeper presence and connection.
Pattabhi Jois reminded us that “practice and all is coming,” a teaching that feels especially meaningful this month. As we explore backbends, chest-opening transitions, and the subtle engagement of jalandhara bandha (throat lock), we learn that expression doesn’t arise from force—it arises from steady, sincere practice. The heart opens gradually, with patience, humility, and devotion.
B.K.S. Iyengar often spoke of the throat as the channel of truth, where expression becomes aligned with inner intention. When the throat chakra is balanced, communication becomes an act of compassion rather than reaction. Through mindful alignment—lifting the sternum, lengthening the neck, softening the jaw—we create anatomical space that reflects our energetic intention: to speak and act from the heart.
Throughout November, we invite you to cultivate this union of openness and expression. Notice how the breath rises into the chest, how the shoulders release, how the throat softens. Allow your practice to become a dialogue between courage and kindness.
As a community, may we hold space for one another—listening deeply, speaking truthfully, and moving with compassion. Together, we honour the teachings of our lineage and the unfolding wisdom within each of us.
