How has Yoga changed over the past 30 years?

From a mention in an ancient text to the widely popular practice we know today, Yoga has grown and developed an unimaginable amount over the past five thousand years.

However, it was not until the twentieth century that the western world began to participate in and support the practice of Yoga. In fact, the most significant growth in popularity can largely be traced back over just thirty years.

Launching as one of just three Yoga schools in Sydney in 1985, North Sydney Yoga has grown alongside the culture. As practices, teaching and theory developed, so did our school. We have grown to become a trusted and knowledgeable source of Yoga and its benefits, influences and traditions.

We have been there from the beginning, encouraging mindful students to improve their physical and mental wellbeing through the art of Yoga. Now, studies show that millions of people around the world regularly take part in yoga classes, while countless more have at least a casual interest in the practice.

In December 2015, North Sydney Yoga celebrated its 30th anniversary. As we look forward to another three decades and beyond providing trusted and experienced training to yogis from all walks of life, we also appreciate the importance of acknowledging and respecting our past.

To truly understand where we have come from, as well as the potential for the future, take a look at our infographic above and discover how Yoga has changed over the past 30 years.
