Update – Letting go of the Attendance Pyramid

As you may have noticed we have removed the ‘Attendance Pyramids’.

We have witnessed quite a lot of discussion around it, amongst others re privacy issues i.e. displaying your names etc. I am sorry for not having taken this into consideration when creating this.

Also, there were some concerns about ‘competition’. To me competitiveness shows on the yogamat when we are trying to be someone we are not, or striving too hard. This can also surface in conversation, when we are ‘showing off’ about any aspect of our practice etc.

Counting the number of attendances was meant to be an encouragement for you to practice more often. To me this is not competitiveness. If using this term, then I see it as competition for positive striving or enthusiasm to become a better person through consistent practice. The pyramid was meant to motivate you.

It appears that this idea didn’t feel entirely comfortable with all of you. Therefore we are discontinuing counting your attendances.

As always, we are trying to find ways to help you on your journey, and I thought it was a fun idea. It definitely got us thinking…

OM Shanti,
Angelika

Inital Post – Introducing ‘The Attendance Pyramid’

Non-competitiveness is one of the attractive qualities of a Yoga practice. It gives us the space to truly ‘just be’, and develop into the best version of ourselves. All we are asked for is to do the best we can at any given time. What is required though is regular practice!

And this is where we sometimes need a little nudge to either get us out of bed, or later in the day to commit with resolve, to leave work on time so we are able to come to class. That’s why we thought we’d give you a little assistance and have created an ‘Attendance Pyramid’!

How does it work?

We will simply count the number of times you come to practice.

We will display the ‘Pyramid’ at the school, listing the students’ names, and number of times they have attended since January this year:

100+ times
90+ times
80+ times
70+ times
50+ times

The bands of colour within the pyramid represent the yogic chakras. This list will be updated weekly, and we will celebrate our students who attend most by… coming along even more often to keep them company! In this way we can draw inspiration from our fellow practitioners. And soon, you’ll be one of those at the top of the list 🙂
