‘Ashtanga Yoga – Further into the Richness’, is an advanced course designed to deepen your understanding of Yoga on all levels. Delving into the philosophy, ritual, anatomy, obstacles and psychology of yoga, it’s perfect for students wishing to expand and heighten their experience of the practice.
Throughout the course, you’ll receive mentorship and training from Angelika Knoerzer, the director of North Sydney Yoga, along with a support system of professional teachers and fellow practitioners.

Course content
The course content includes Analysis of the Practice, Anatomy of the Primary Series, Yoga Philosophy and Subtle Practices.
- Participate in ‘The Challenge’, by practising four or more times a week during one month and keeping a detailed Yoga diary.
- Meet six times during the course with Angelika and fellow practitioners.
- Expand the learning beyond these study classes through weekly focuses for your practice.
- Document your observations and reflections to maintain continuous connection, and to keep you engaged in deeper inquiry into the nature of Yoga.
- Discuss and analyse the function and structure of the Primary Series from different perspectives.
- Understand the difficulties a posture presents and potential mistakes commonly made when practicing them.
- Venture into an overview of the Second Series, when appropriate.
- Learn to recognise different body types in asana practice and understand how it works on particular sections of the body, such as knees, hips, shoulders, back and neck.
- Participate in demonstrations on how to amend the practice in the case of problems.
- Explore ‘energy’ in a practical way- feeling it and using it – the exciting experience of the subtle energy body.
- Memorise the chanting of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras.
- Develop listening skills, concentration, clarity of mind, and deeper awareness through devotional practice.
- Venture into more advanced Pranayama practices when ready.
- Cultivate a regular meditation practice.
- Deepen your understanding of the 8 limbs of Yoga.
- Master the challenges of everyday living with the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
Participation requirements
Anyone who has participated in some form of formal Yoga study is welcome to apply. Those who’ve completed the one-year ‘Deepen the Experience’ course are also eligible.
You are also required to have:
- A genuine interest and deep inquiry into Yoga in general, your own practice and understanding of it.
- A willingness to undertake considerable self-enquiry.
- An openness to communicate, work in a group and with your teachers.
