The peaceful warrior

The Awakening Energy of Asana

During practice we sometimes find ourselves going through the motions. At times uninspired, bored, just happy to be finished.

A focused, directed mind can harness the combined powers of Ujjayi breathing, Vinyasa, and the Bandhas to bring us into our receptive feeling body. Stay present, remain aware and experience the awakening energy of asana.

Dena has been studying and practicing traditional ashtanga yoga for over 20 years. Having completed the forth series some ten years ago she has been certified to teach by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore South India.

Dena and Jack were married by Guruji in 1997 and the arrival of Zoli and Izac has completed the picture. Together they live in the hills of Goonengerry (Gods land) just beyond of Byron Bay.

The path of motherhood has added a gentle compassion to Dena's lyrical style of teaching. Assisted by Jack, family warmth and a love of the practice shine through to create a safe yet provoking class atmosphere.

Weekend Workshop - Back and Bandhas

November 6-7, 2010
Saturday 9.40-11.20am and 1-3pm
Sunday 11am-1pm and 3-5pm

Activation of the bandhas is one of the key elements of Ashtanga Yoga.
Often talked about, the concept may sound simple enough, but it takes many years applying consistent attention to actually gain control of the bandhas. The bandhas have a direct relationship to the breath, spinal alignment and moving energy through the body.
It is very beneficial to use additional exercises outside of regular practice to facilitate this awareness and control.
Graeme will present an easy to follow guide to connecting with the bandhas in practice and daily life through simple anatomical explanations and practical exercises.

Cost: $220 +3% credit card fees
please inquire about a discount when paying in cash or cheque made out to Graeme & Leonie Northfield.

Sunday Lecture 'Our Knee - A Vulnerable Joint'

Knees are vulnerable joints, prone to injury and pain.

As yoga practitioners, it is particularly important to keep our knees functional, strong and capable of resisting stress. If knee problems already exist, then extra attention is necessary in order to rehabilitate and maintain strong, healthy function. In this workshop, Graeme will present the major anatomical features of the knee in an easy to follow format, with tips and exercises gained from his 28 years of practice and experience.

Date : 2 January 2011 (to be confirmed)

 Dena Kingsberg

Like a marriage, the commitment to an ongoing practice of one style or method allows us the possibility to reach beyond the surface, unfolding layers of resistance, deepening intuition, inquiring into self and reconnecting with the essence of our true nature.

"The richness of Traditional Ashtanga Yoga with respect to Sri K Pattabhi Jois and Patanjali offer more than a lifetime of inspiration." Dena Kingsberg

Graeme and Leonie's teachings always provide key elements of understanding by raising body and breath awareness levels, experiencing the groundedness of core stability and alignment and encouraging people to contact their own sense of inner calm and relaxation.

In these times of environmental, economic and social instability, it becomes more apparent and necessary to stay connected to our inner truth, which isYoga.
